Winter 2026: FMCSA Updates

Staying on top of compliance isn’t just about scheduling routine drug testing; it’s about ensuring every piece of technology in your cab meets federal standards. In a series of recent updates (December 8, December 30, and January 13), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced the immediate removal of 11 Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) from the registered devices list due to failure to meet minimum safety and technical requirements.

“If an ELD isn't meeting federal requirements, it's taken out of service -- plain and simple. We'll keep making clear, fair decisions that put safety first and support everyone who shares America's roadways,” said FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs.

11 Revoked ELD Devices

If your drivers are currently using any of the devices listed below, you have a strict 60-day window from their original revocation dates to replace them to avoid severe operational penalties.

The 11 Revoked ELD Devices:

(Deadline: February 7, 2026)

  • Pioneer Safety Solutions LLC: PSS ELD (Model: PRS)

  • Black Bear ELD: Black Bear ELD (Model: BRS)

  • Rollingtrans: RT ELD Plus – ACCURATE ELITE (Model: RT-ELITE-BLE3647)

(Deadline: March 1, 2026)

  • Top Tracking System LLC: P3TS (Model: P3TS)

  • Forward Thinking Systems LLC: Forward Thinking Systems—Field Warrior ELD (BYOD) (Model: FW-BYOD)

  • Forward Thinking Systems LLC: Forward Thinking Systems—Field Warrior ELD (Garmin) (Model: FW-Garmin)

Required Next Steps for Motor Carriers

According to the FMCSA mandate, any motor carrier utilizing the devices above must take the following actions immediately:

  1. Stop Using the Device: Discontinue the use of the revoked ELDs. Revert to paper logs or authorized logging software to record your required hours of service (HOS) data.

  2. Replace Before Your Deadline: You must procure and install a compliant ELD from the official FMCSA Registered Devices list before the respective deadline for your device (February 7, March 1, or March 15, 2026).

Note: If the ELD provider corrects all identified deficiencies, FMCSA will place the ELD back on the list of registered devices. However, FMCSA strongly encourages motor carriers to take action now to avoid compliance issues.

What Happens If You Miss the Deadline? Do Now

The FMCSA has instructed safety officials to provide a grace period up until your device’s specific deadline, allowing drivers to present paper logs or use the revoked ELD display as a backup without citation.

However, beginning on February 7, March 1, or March 15, 2026 (depending on the device), motor carriers continuing to use these revoked devices will be legally considered as operating without an ELD entirely. Drivers caught using these devices on or after their corresponding dates will be cited for 395.8(a)(1) (“No record of duty status”) and placed out-of-service (OOS) in accordance with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance OOS Criteria.

Do not wait until the last minute. Audit your fleet’s tech stack today to ensure your operations keep moving smoothly.
