On December 1, 2025, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced a complete overhaul of the vetting process for Electronic Logging Devices. The new system is designed to block non-compliant and fraudulent devices before they ever reach the registered list.
Previously, manufacturers could easily self-certify their devices. This loophole allowed sub-standard technology to enter the market, leading to a constant cycle of revocations and costly replacements for fleets.
The new process introduces hands-on vetting, including active fraud detection and strict application categorization: Approved, Information Requested, Further Review, or Denied.
While the FMCSA cleans up the registry, motor carriers must ensure their fleets remain compliant:
Audit Your Current ELDs: Verify your devices are still on the official FMCSA registered list.
Adjust Purchasing: Only buy devices actively listed on the approved registry.
Monitor for Revocations: Stay alert for further purges of non-compliant devices.
Drivers caught using an unapproved or revoked device will be placed out-of-service immediately. Protect your operations by verifying your equipment today.
